Pleione Ganymede 'Dolly Bird'
A cross made by well-known plantswoman Kath Fairhurst using the rare (in collections) Himalayan Pln. hookeriana as a parent. Due to the difficulty of growing and flowering this species in cultivation it has not featured in hybridisation programmes to the extent it might otherwise have done. Kath produced a surplus of seedlings which were offered via an annual list compiled by Peter Bradbury from which Rainer Kretz obtained a batch of seedlings (spring 2001). Most tended to be uniform in colour but one clone stood out by having darker rose-purple flowers with a beautifully marked lip. Good poise, on tall stems and exceptionally pretty.
