Pleione praecox Var. Reichenbachiana
(Pedigree stock of the original introduction) – the jury is still out on whether this is the same plant as the one described in 1868 as P. reichenbachiana. What is certain however, is that this a spectacular variety that in my
view deserves at least varietal (var.) and quite possibly subspecific (ssp.) rank as it differs in a number of important points from the usual praecox. Capable of making huge, more elongated pseudobulbs and often producing two or more shoots, commonly with 2-3 flowers per stem. The bulbs I am offering are from extremely rare pedigree stock which can be traced all the way back to the original introduction in the 1990s. Collected on Doi Inthanon (Thailand) at a height of 2000m. The precise circumstances of its introduction are sensitive. A truly spectacular pedigree Pleione of the highest rarity for the connoisseur. Vigorous and easy to grow.
