Pleione x lagenaria
(praecox x maculata)(ex B. Röllich, ex H.-J. Dethloff, ex Dr. H. Pfennig, ex Vienna Botanical Garden) – this is the almost legendary plant that was first described in 1851 when it was considered a separate species. It has since become clear that it is in fact a natural hybrid which is intermediate between its two parents. These bulbs can be traced all the way back to Dr. Horst Pfennig, a well-known early Pleione enthusiast who is thought to have obtained his stock from the Vienna Botanical Garden in the 1960s. There is every likelihood that his stock originates from Thomas Lobb’s 1851 introduction.
